Everyone who loves to travel by bicycle dreams about an epic tour to do once in their lifetime and many choose to cycle the Camino de Santiago. The ‘Camino Frances’ has thus become a mainstream bicycle itinerary in Europe, especially the final 200 km that are required to get the ‘Compostela’.

Those who have cycled the Camino and are looking for new pilgrim routes and also those who prefer to cycle off the beaten path can now explore Sicily’s Magna Via Francigena.

Perhaps you heard about the Via Francigena from Canterbury to Rome, the ancient pilgrims’ path that crosses the Alps to reach the ‘Eternal City’. But only few people know that Sicily has its own network of Vie Francigene (‘Frankish Routes’) too. Thanks to the nonprofit organisation Amici dei Cammini Francigeni di Sicilia (literally ‘Friends of the Sicilian Frankish Routes) who has done a lot of research and got funding from the Italian government, the ancient route between Palermo and Agrigento has come to new life.
