FRANCESCO'S WAY CYCLING ROUTE

An itinerary in the heart of Italy, crossing some of the most fascinating and famous regions of the Bel Paese. An opportunity to leave behind noise, chaos and the hectic life of the city to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of contemplation and silence of the villages, mountains and hermitages.

AN UNFORGETTABLE CYCLING ROUTE in TUSCANY, Umbria e Lazio

A historical journey, a pilgrimage by bike, a cycling tour in Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio, among woods, mountains and villages to explore with the watchful eye and spirit of the bicigrinos in the footsteps of St. Francis, patron saint of Italy.

As often happens, we have begun to walk the Way of Francis, thinking we must overcome our limits, reach high peaks and feel strong and fulfilled, feeling how strong we were. After the first kilometers covered with the euphoria and the joy of the journey we have just begun, we have understood the true meaning of this journey. The bike tour along the Via di Francesco is steeped in spirituality, generosity, joy and respect for the deepest human values. A bike trip on the roads of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio but also an immersion in oneself, a break from one’s ego and finally the immense joy of feeling accompanied all the way by the most beloved Saint of Italy, an extraordinary man who has left an indelible mark on the future of all humanity.

Francesco pilgrimage cycling route is a unique experience in the very heart of italy

The Via di Francesco is a truly fascinating bike itinerary, especially in some of its sections. Well structured in the Umbrian part and quite shared and supported both by the inhabitants of the innumerable villages they meet, and by the citizens of the larger towns. Both the guide of the publishing house Terre di Mezzo and the site of the Via di Francesco, show the traces from North to South in the section from the Sanctuary of La Verna to Assisi and from South to North in the stretch from San Pietro in Vaticano to Assisi. There are also a series of variants, the most substantial of which are the Valfabbrica – Perugia – Assisi variant on the Northern Way and the Rieti – Terni variant on the Southern Way. Here below are the maps with the elevation profiles of the two paths. However, we recommend downloading the most up-to-date tracks by clicking on the “download GPS tracks from the site” button, which will start the download of the latest GPS bike tracks available on the Via di Francesco website.

Bike rental on the Francesco's way!

The Via di Francesco develops above all on paved roads with low or no traffic so it does not require a specific type of bike. It can be ridden with a mountain bike, a gravel bike or a racing bike. Like any bike trip, it still requires a bicycle in good condition, with good maintenance and above all safe. If you don't have a bicycle you can rent a Trek, Specialized or Bianchi bike on Via di Francesco.

Southern Francesco's way cycling route GPX Track

The Via di Francesco by bike on the Southern Route starts from the chaotic and colorful urban context of Rome. The landscape changes quickly as you approach the green areas of Umbria until you arrive in Assisi with its characteristic and evocative color of its sunsets that accompany its atmospheres of peace, reflection and meditation. Along the way there is no lack of opportunity to enjoy the explosive joy of the inhabitants of Lazio and the warm and sincere welcome of the Umbrian people, always with the delicious background of delicious dishes and wines from two regions with a millennial gastronomic tradition.
