Return to Sicily After a Bike Journey Across 13 Nations
This is the story of two people – he’s Sicilian, she’s Austrian – who decided to leave Sicily and travel by bike in search of a new home. After 8.000 km and 100 days spent on their bike tour through Central and Southern Europe as well as Morocco, the duo decides to return from where they have left and try to do something for Sicily.
On their way, the two bike travellers were marvelled by the endless, windy beaches in Holland and the flocks of seagulls, they shared the road with hundreds of pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, they swam in the ocean in Portugal, danced with the Berbers in the desert, waited for three days for the heavy rainfall to stop in Amsterdam , cycled against the wind on the North Sea and counted rows upon rows of white crosses in the military cemeteries in northern France.
Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, Morocco. The duo travelled through thirteen nations before coming to a decision: going away is an option but not a solution to all problems so why not go back and try to change things?
This is how the idea of the Sicily Cycling Network was born. Only by putting together existing resources and developing a network there is a possibility of succeeding. If you run any sort of accommodation or similar business in Sicily, you can join the network for free, to do so click on this link.
